It Wasn't Her

by Shruti   Dec 10, 2015

The lights went dimmer and dimmer...
my eyes blindfolded with darkness all around...
I felt a soothing hum...
My lashes unfurled-
a beautiful world
yet so unknown...
Dancing in the light,
the flowers swayed in
bliss...
But no soul did I
see.
I heard a voice,
"because you don't deserve..."

I felt a simmering
drop
rolling down my cheek.
I wandered afar...
Just then I heard
the sound of flapping wings...far in the ground;
My face lit up and
I saw her again
...standing still.
not a word did she say,
not a move did she make;
"Don't go. It isn't her."
I heard again that whisper.
Yet I took a step front-
she remained still.
I moved forward towards her,
forward she too moved,
but away...away from me.
I shouted,
I ran,
I caught her hand;
she turned and looked at me,
and
I realised
it wasn't her...
