TIME

by Wayne Gates   Jul 30, 2016

TIME
I remember a time, so very long ago
when summer lasted forever
and I was always on the go
catching bugs, and lying in the grass
innocent and unaware
that my youth would soon pass
being home on time
was my only commitment to keep
and if I didn't make it
I'd be grounded for a week
Those lazy days have long since passed
into a blur of life running far too fast
no time to play, or to notice the trees
bills to pay and bosses to please
The days feel like minutes
and the months like hours
Jogging in the park
never admiring the flowers
my earbuds in, and thoughts on tomorrow
projects to complete
and meetings to follow
If I want to talk I have to schedule this
Not with a friend
but with a therapist
Oh to go back, to those early days
when life was slower
and I took time to gaze
At the bugs, the flowers, the grass, and the trees
To slow down time
make it somehow freeze
savor it all, take it all in
before life begins
all over again

Wayne this is a thought provoking write that reminisces about the past and thinks about the now.
I like the subtle rhyming, it makes the piece flow that bit smoother, in my opinion.
I think we would all love to go back to a time when all we worried about was being home on time, a time of skimmed knees instead of broken hearts and paying bills.

    Great write, Em
