Heaven sent (script)

Heaven sent (script)

Two minutes to reach this precise:

.
^ point in time...

The metal door slides across ---
Its 'HEAVY' thundering roll lost
in the exhilarating sound of passing air...
The engine's scream fuses with my thumping fear.
Usually as I look down I feel pure unadulterated pleasure,
but today, it's acutely different...
almost surreal - I wish...
but, do I..?
I look into other sets of eyes, all them hardened, all of them focused...
then... "Jumpers away, jumpers away"
Instinctively, I jump from...
:
25,000 feet

:

the immediate rushing sensation

:

bombards my all...

:

as we drop like stones,

:

away from the shrinking plane;

:

It's like being swallowed by a typhoon...

:

I assume the traditional sky-dive position, we all do...

:

Just like in training, all those years honing responses...

:

I twist and flip onto by back,

:

then immediately return,

:

It's like 2nd nature,

:

but today is horror deja-vu...

:

the icy Adrenalin I'm falling through...

:

Is me...

:

Falling at terminal velocity:

:

150 miles an hour.

:

Why, why why... Attacks my hurricane thoughts

:

Why? Because this is me...

:

This is who I am...

:

I can do no other than be true to me.

:

18,000 feet to go...

:

Hands (my cousins) move in close...

:

*thumbs up*

:

*mutual nod*

:

My oxygen mask is...

:

...removed

:

air forces frozen pins into each inch of my face.

:

I must... Concentrate.

:

Another flip...

:

Monica's face flits momentarily across my mind.

:

Her flushed face passing me our new son...

:

WHAT AM I DOING...

:

RISKING IT ALL?

:

Another flip...

:

Time is running...

:

Out... like sand pouring through the base of a

:

Greedy hour glass.

:

Filling up far too fast...

:

Why?

:

The first parachute is pulled and he's gone,

:

...then in quick succession two more of the team disappear

:

The remaining eyes stare dart like...

:

Slicing through my vulnerable core.

:

YES... I feel it, damn it - but resolutely I swallow 'it' down...

:

and conjure (I hope) a brave Apache face...

:

Then like a kidney punch my blood bleeds away,

:

...on a nylon chute.

:

A compulsion rises like a wave,

:

making me want to pull my chute...

:

the chute I do not have!

:

My fear is beyond terror...

:

Am I looking into the face of death...

:

MY DEATH?

:

One last flip.

:

Trust the training.

:

Know your ability.

:

Keep the faith,

:

and

:

Just

:

Let

:

Go...

. .. ..:

.. . ..:

. . . .:

. . . .:

. . . .:

. . . .:

. . . . :

__Gotcha__

Ah, my eyes! the adrenaline rushing as I read. The view. My inner thoughts, "why jump? Why jump? Don't jump! OH NO, YOU are doommed!"

I have yet to see the youtube video. But I, really like this read.

Awesome! I was expecting a bad ending. I've only ever been indoor sky diving - it was fun, but I'm not much of a thrill seeker so jumping from an actual plane would be terrifying.

Michael, wonderfully written-for a minute there I thought maybe you had lost your mind and was actually jumping out of a perfectly good airplane-lol. Well done-

    AWESOME !!

It clearly brought back to the memory the video clip of that free fall i saw on the internet,
but this was seeing it one slide at a time, and each time capturing one more of his expression and thought, the words in your poem makes it more real than the impact of the visual i saw.
    Great work Michael.

    Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Jay - I guess as a writer trying to get into the head of others is part of the enjoyment.

      Take care.
