A New Year Blessing Sonnet

by Larry Chamberlin   Dec 13, 2016

Between realizing our dearest hope
or facing a disappointing outcome
lies our personal best efforts to cope
where intelligent action's the fulcrum.

May your destinations this coming year
seem to have astounding futility
yet be found once final deadlines draw near
to lie in reach of your ability.

Your toiling spirit's appreciated
with a draft of sweat that sweetens bitters;
goals are fair when work's initiated
gets ale in your glass and gold that glitters.

If obstacles your fortune will impede
nothing is more human than to succeed.

    Hello Larry,

    I am so sorry, with all the festivities, I missed this one. This sonnet really captures this time of year, saying farewell to one and making plans for the next. You are quite right, we humans like a challenge and there is nothing better when we succeed.

    Happy New Year.
