Sixteen to twenty, 2016

by Dancing Rivers   Dec 24, 2016

2016..

From sixteen to twenty
My life has changed drastically
Four years of growing
Four years of hoping
For miracles to happen
For life to be reshapen

From sixteen to twenty
I've made so many memories.
I've made my mistakes
And taken risks ignoring the stakes.
I've conquered myself
With no trophies for the shelf.

But boy from sixteen to twenty
I've learnt to depend on me.

I've learnt to swallow my pride
I've learnt to take life in stride
I've lost so much
And with spirit become in touch.

Life has taught me
From sixteen to twenty
That forging train tickets
Won't win me the wicket
That prostitutes are people
And judgement is unreasonable.

That shelters aren't for misfits
They're for people trying to fit
Into a world of loneliness
And they do so with finesse.

I've known hunger and pain
I've tasted joy dancing in the rain.
I've sat comfortable with thieves
And angry with people who deceive.

I've made love
I've lost love
From sixteen to twenty
I've lived in dreams
Lost sight of reality.

I've cried with a wh "ore"
At a graveyards church door
And danced with the willows
In a place only I know.

I've mourned a mother
Neglecting her son for other
More enticing endeavours
Still I wonder where are son and mother?

I've danced to call the rain
I've prayed for things in vain.
I've learnt to trust the angels
To see life at a new angle.

I've torn myself apart
To purify my shattered heart
And run in fear
Of what I might find here.

I've learnt to adore childhood
And am trading it for motherhood
I've learnt not to fear
What is not yet here.

Still time passes on
People will come, and be gone.
Soon I will be smiling
To see my daughters eyes shining.

Because from seventeen to twenty
I have journeyed plenty.

Soon twenty sixteen will die
Twenty seventeen shall rise
And life will be so different
As I become a parent.

I cry for my childhood
But there's so much more
To rejoice in motherhood
Of that I am sure.

From sixteen to twenty
My life has changed plenty.
From seventeen to twenty
I've become a mother entity.

Bring it on!!
