Beautiful Lie

by Maple Tree   Mar 16, 2017

She fell from Grace, or so they said
a million and one times over,
I always thought that I was dead
and may never truly recover.

I wasn't born with wings of gold
nor a heart with a silver lining,
but they insisted, as life would unfold
that I would keep on shining.

I'm not the sun, nor the moon
please release me from this perfection,
just a flawed women who sings nature's tune
who fears her own reflection.

If I stare too long I'll be reminded
of how I let them down,
they will continue to be blinded
that my smile was simply a frown.

Upon the day, that I should die
will be the day I live,
I've always been a beautiful lie
with nothing left to give.

In death I'll be an orb of light
floating around the room,
and when the clock strikes midnight
nightmares will consume.

Upon my grave, they will stand
mourning the pure essence of me,
finding out who I truly was,
In the ending lines of my poetry.
