Same Old Same Old

by Alex Penuelas   May 22, 2017

I would love to
Hang out with You,
If only we'd participate in
Something other than
What we usually do.

Every time you say
"Hey let's chill"
I know today would consist of either
A trio to Dave and Busters
Or Cabo Cantina
Or Wurstkutche
Or some other bar that
Sells fancy drinks
So that you can get that
Blue Moon that you always get.

Or it would be
that one mediocre hookah lounge
That's by your house
Because you don't wanna go anywhere
That's outside of a five mile radius
Of your house.

I would then ask you to
Come over and
Maybe we can do something a little different.

Like, I dunno?
Go to a local museum,
Or go to the beach,
Or travel somewhere we have
Never been to before.

But nah.
You don't want that
Because you say that
I live way too far.

Ok,
But why is it then
Absolutely positively
A-OK
For me to travel the distance
That you don't want to
In order to preserve
The friendship we have?

And how about that last time,
Where I told you to
Stop telling the secrets
Which I told you in confidence
To people that I don't even talk to??

This isn't the first time you do this.
In fact,
I've seen you do this
To other friends that I've
Added into our friend bubble.

Why do you think I now
keep my distance from you
As much as possible?

Because while I try to grow and explore,
All you want is the
Same old same old.
