Memories and Dreams

by Wayne Gates   Feb 14, 2018

Memories and dreams
floating around and twisting each other
so that none are left unchanged

The inescapable advance of time
and the diminished capabilities
that come with chronic illness

have offered precious few
sources of new input

All that I bring to a conversation
starts with I remember when...

and now I question
my memories

Did I kiss the girl?
or was it only in my dreams?

I hang onto the good ones
even if they are imagined

They pacify a lonely mind

What a terribly sad write, Wayne. I suppose in this situation, hanging on to the good memories is all you can really do; but also, be thankful that you have some.

    All the best to you,

    Ben
