The Cycle

by Charles   Jul 12, 2004

All alone he entered the building
Leaving his friends behind,
The good times and the bad
Were in the past, no button to rewind.

It had all changed
When he had to move schools,
He knew he would be all alone
And would not fit the social rules.

His friends had all said good-bye
As they shed tear after tear,
The miles would separate them
But in their hearts, they would stay near.

Tears came to his eyes
As he entered the classroom,
New faces, new people
A new school- his doom.

No one said hello
Or acknowledged his of any kind,
he kept to himself as always and hoped
A true friend he would someday find.

Then one day it happened
Someone stopped to say hello,
he smiled up at them
Time seemed to move at an all time slow.

From daily greetings to sleepovers
To secrets as one soul,
The two became best friends
In each other's lives, a major role.

Now as he walks to school
A friend at his side,
he remembers how it was
When he and his friends had cried.

The loss of losing one another
The lonely days ahead,
Filled with distress
But friends forever they had said.

And they had stayed friends
Just as they had vowed,
But despite that
New friends he had found.

As he walked into class that day
he saw someone new,
The anguish expression on her face
he had seen that view once too.

For he had stood there once
In front of the class gazing out,
But as he gazed at her
He had learned something no doubt.

At the end of the day
He approached her with a smile,
“How are you today?” He asked
She smiled in return and they talked for a while.

And the cycle continued.
