Submissive.

by Poet on the Piano   Nov 7, 2019

It's quiet here with you
when the world outside, and in my mind,
is too cacophonous.
You make this life significant,
our hidden desires revealed in
such irreverent ways.

But I trust you,
and for so long,
I couldn't trust myself.

You are the voice that grounds me,
demanding that I never hurt myself again,
because pain can be pleasant but
not in the way I begged for it.
My insides were raw and ravaged
and I never let them heal.

You surfaced me,
waited with me until skin mended;
I don't need pain the same
way anymore.
