A Poet's Mind

by BEJohnson   Feb 3, 2020

A poet's mind is always in a daze.
Never rests in a peaceful slumber.
The rain doesn't quiet the storm.
Even the quietest days we ponder.

A poet's mind swarms with ideas.
Far and wide they come together.
It lines up in a flawless sync.
Like a perfect storm in any weather.

A poet's mind is nothing but a maze.
Something even we can't defeat.
There's always something to write.
In the depths of our one true retreat.

I nodded my head to this! You put into words how I feel sometimes, when my thoughts are entangled and it truly does feel like a maze we're always trying to figure out, or at least provide some solace and consolation in the lonely, confusing times. And I agree, there is always something to write! I feel like we are always going through something, processing something, whether positive or negative (though often it can be easier to write through the sadness or need to express the pain), and a poet's mind is never quite silent.

Oh, one suggestion, I believe in the third line, "quite" should be "quiet".
