Not That Long Ago

You know I think I prefer
The Earth as a child
Everything was simpler
And people still smiled

No high expectations
Nor bills to pay
All that you wanted
Was to stay out and play

As the sun starts to set
Your mum’s voice would call
To the sound of dinner
And you would not stall

Say goodbye to your friends
As you run inside
Your facial expressions
That you cannot hide

When dinner is served
A huge smile to your face
Your family is thankful
As mum still says grace

And we would all talk
While enjoying our food
With happy conversation
That set the mood

And no one was rushed
To make this all end
We made this our time
As a family to spend

With hot milk and chocolate
While playing board games
Up until bedtime
We would remain

Then lying in bed
Reminiscing the day
It's sad that the present
Is no longer this way
