My Drunken Baby

by Linda   Jul 20, 2020

When your spirit is feeling heavy
and the liquor makes you sad,
when it tells you that I don’t love you
or that you’re not a very good dad

I will carry you inside
And cover you up safely
because in these moments, I love you
My very drunken baby.

You can puke on me a thousand times
and ask me why I’m here.
You can tell me that I talk too much,
but I promise this is clear:

You are the only one I love like this.
I hope my sober baby know
that every challenge we have faced together
helps our marriage grow.

I miss you while I’m working
and I love your every mystery.
What I want baby is all day long
to have you next to me.

If I could keep you in my pocket
I would tell you all day long
a million poems, a soliloquy.
You’re the muse inside my song.

Every day I want to be better
I want to make you happy.
I know it can be very hard
because stuff can get so crappy.

I will never waste my time
on loving someone new.
I spent my whole life alone inside.
the best piece I have is you

I love your dreams, ambitions.
You deserve the admiration
of every energy that comes your way,
a result of your creation.

Your value has no limit,
I will not take you for granted,
nor forget the flowers in my mind
grew from seeds you planted.

You’re beautiful, strong and powerful
You strive for what you need,
but I know that I wonder sometimes
if you’re too good for me.

Anyway,

Goodnight my drunken baby
you have long been asleep.
I hope that this text message
is one that you will keep
