When Once We Were

by Walter   Nov 4, 2020

A window is clear until you pull the blinds
A doorbell is pressed but no longer chimes
A letter is sent with RTS comes back home
A switch set to silent you won't hear when I phone

A candle unlit as my dinner goes cold
A walk in the evening with no hand to hold
A sun that is setting when your eyes use to shine
A star in the night but my wish now declined

A key to your door which no more will unlock
A message I forward goes to junk mail inbox
A photo of you will now only fake smile
A home though half bare I'm still in denial

Our mutual friends who now all take sides
Our life long possessions we're forced to divide
Our favourite movies I no longer replay
Our songs when they're heard no more will I sway

Our bed we once shared keeps me to the edge
Our wedding vows spoken but no longer pledged
Our rings that were worn still leave their imprint
Our love letters kept in flowing hand print

Our promises made to love till we die
Our feelings we shared which let us both fly
Our love that was felt as we reached for the stars
Our hearts now compared yours filled and mine scared
