Dianna

Her name was Dianna and she looked so upset
We only talked for a while but now can't forget
We just met today I never knew her before
But she seemed so sad that I couldn't ignore

I sat next to her on the seat in the train
We were just strangers but I felt her pain
I really wanted to help though I didn't know
I asked 'Are you ok?' And she just said 'NO!'

'Do you want me to leave? I'll go away?'
She answered 'No don't, can you please just stay?'
'Of course' I replied 'but tell me if you're hurt'
'Are you in any pain or do I need to alert?'

Not answering and only shaking her head
I felt her tear drop from her eye it would shed
It fell on my skin and feeling so warm
Like I sensed all her pain and how much she was torn

I tried hard to calm her and get her to speak
In the faint hope she'll tell why she's feeling weak
And words would come slowly with sobs in between
She started to trust me when she saw I was keen

We began talking where she would say more
I learnt of her story and what happened before
The more she would speak the more she would cry
And I felt all her pain when I worked out why

I so delicately held her as she collapsed in my arms
Where everything she said was ringing alarms
We need to get off for the attention she needs
And she would just nod like she had agreed

We arrived in the city on the centre track
My arm held her up and supported her back
Walking out to the platform I then turned around
To the station attendant that I had just found

I asked him to call for an ambulance
My eyes briefly turned then back quickly glance
I was holding her hand so tightly I'd grip
But she was too quick and through mine she slipped

A train horn alerting on the opposite track
My reaction too slow to hold her back
Suddenly deciding that now she would jump
And hitting the train with a sickening thump

The officer at the station would write his report
Why this poor girls life was now cut so short
I said that she told me that she'd just been raped
By a work colleague before she escaped

Now confirming her details and confused with her name
Saying she was called 'Anna' though its almost the same
It took me a moment before working out why
Her mind already made that today she would die
