Hey Little Puppy

by Codie Lapae   Nov 19, 2020

Hey there little puppy,
Why do you look as though you are down?
The sun is up and the sky is clear,
So why must you sit there and stare?
Tell me what's wrong, my little puppy.
Are your dreary thoughts making you frown?
Come talk to me and wipe away that glistening tear.
Is your stomy mind becoming too much for you to bear?

It's okay little puppy
Just let out all your pain
The sun is gleaming, so why aren't you?
Did your siblings leave you here to cry in the dark?
Did your mother turn away when you cried for her help?
Just hold on little puppy
Don't let your sweet happiness drain.
What is it that's making you so blue?
Don't give up, my words you should mark
Things will get better, so don't start to yelp

Hey there little puppy
Would you like to go out?
The sun makes your eyes glimmer so bright
Get rid of your sadness and no longer be blue
And see the world through beautiful colors.
Things get better, little puppy.
My words you should not doubt.
Unbind you heart so it's not so tight.
Let me show you happiness in true.
You no longer need to hide under your covers.

The parallels of life become apparent when we can empathise in others their difficulties. How do we know what it is like to feel unloved, an outsider and different from the pack. A litter of puppies has its top dog, who looks down to the second in command and so on. The poor 'little puppy' who is left out is something many will be able to relate to.
I am sure that little puppy will find the sun, its new confidence and of course the love it deserves.

    Take care.

I liked the rhyme pattern. It was unique and I kind of want to try it out. On the third to last line in the last stanza, I would probably change it to "Unbind your heart...", but that's completely your decision.

That would definitely make the poem much more appealing. Thank you so much for the help.

      Have a good day.
