Before you leave
Consider this
And think how much of you I'll miss

Before you walk
Have you forgot?
How long ago we tied the knot

Before you drive
Give this a chance
Remember once there was romance

Before you fly
Please read my mail
Our love was once a fairy tale

I wait for you
As time just goes by
And finally now that you reply

I will not stay
I'm not what you need
I grew tired of giving to all of your greed

I will not pause
I've considered it all
When I was there you seemed to ignore

I will not stop
You clearly forget
How much of our love you used to regret

I will not brake
We used to fight
There was never a moment by candle light

I will not cancel
I've read what you sent
Our love was never such an event

Thinking back now
And I just feel shame
When love has two sides but only one is to blame

    This poem truly hit me like a ton of Bricks.

    I feel like in any relationship we always really only pay attention to our own feelings and emotions at any given time. It’s hard to find a way to stop doing that in order to also see our partners side of things.

    It’s so clear here that both sides don’t want to fully give up BUT one side has been refusing to give up for so long that finally it just feels like it’s time.

    This truly is a remarkable piece!

      Thanks Kat and what you say is exactly what I was trying to convey. And yes, when relationships are complicated, it does become very one sided with how we see things. Eventually as you say, one side gives up and wants to break the vicious circle they feel caught in.
