Calendar Countdown

by Walter   Mar 10, 2021

Do you have a date which you always dread
It's not marked on the calendar but just in your head
A countdown exists when you get close
You cannot avoid it and nor can oppose

Nor can you pretend, it's just another day
Your emotions are real, and here they will stay
No matter how many, years have gone past
Your flag on this day, still flies at half-mast

When memories don't vanish, but remain crystal clear
Until reality hits, and still draws a tear
And all day you're silent, but inside you scream
When you're begging to wake up and told it's a dream

It's not time to move on, as so often you're told
By those who know all, while wearing blindfolds
How dare you tell me, what I should now feel
Act like my emotions, are just all surreal

You'll never get back, what you have lost
And each year that passes, still dearly costs
Because one day a year, will always replay
And for me it just happens, that this is today

    like a road remembered when
a tree had blocked the way
the world it stopped, again, again
    12 months all have prayed

Even though the road now clear
The same place he'd always stop
As this path once drew fear
      And emotions aren't yet forgot

      Thank you Mr. Darcy

    Hello Walter,
I'm sorry that today is the day for you (well yesterday) I know exactly what you mean and this laid heavy on my heart... Unfortunately, I know that many of us will have one of those days, maybe few.

    Take care and sending hugs,
    Em x

This definitely resonated with me as I expect it will with a lot of people. It seems like the pain attached to a darker anniversary will never fade but whether our memories start to fade or if we just become better at dealing with things. It does get better with time. Milly x

Thank you Milly and yes, very wise words indeed with your comment. I think we all have our own coping mechanisms with whether it's best to accept or forget, in any way we can. xx
