Undertow

by cassie hughes   Jul 31, 2021

Caught in the whirlpool of life’s tide,
blue depths drag me under.
Air unobtainable as lungs labour
for some semblance of breath
yet fail to inflate.
Suspended I float.
Despondent lapis eddy’s swirl
in overwhelming currents
to carry consciousness away.
Charybdis wins and I sink
into Poseidon’s eager embrace.
