Reclaim

by Jack Nightengale   May 11, 2022

It's hotter than what I remember,
From subtle red and oranges that now glow a deep amber.
Past the grand hall beyond the fallen statues,
Buried deep beneath the burnt funeral pews.

From the deep darkness a horned figure appears,
The look of relief as it's eyes filled with tears.

"I didn't think we would you anymore,
We never even imagined we would meet you again after you walked out the door.
Is there something you've forgotten or perhaps you need some assistance?
If there is anything at all, I will do it this instant."

"I'm never leaving again, I promise this time I'm here to stay,
Although, I had hoped that things would have never turned out this way.
Beneath this pile is something I buried you see,
Now I have to dig it up again because it's just me."

The demons helps in digging up the ground,
Cracking open the casket, shock filled it's face at what it found.
A mirror image of the one beside him with horns and wings,
Several other artifacts among other things.

"Hey, wake up, it happened again,
It's my loss, you were right, you win.
I should have listened and stayed where I belonged,
Instead stepping out there and continuously being wronged."

"I was having a dream and then you came back,
Are we on the defensive or do we attack?
You're more broken now than you ever were before?
Have you had enough, or do you seek more?"

A silent shake of the head as a single tear of blood rolls down the cheek,
A heavy heart muffles the words he wished to speak.

"We've been separated for far to long,
You are safe now and we Devils will never do you wrong.
We share the same flesh, same blood, same bone,
Now let us return and reclaim our throne."
