A Familiar Knock

by Walter   Sep 8, 2022

A knock was all I heard that night
And I knew that it was you
I heard it many times before
I'm never guessing who

But I did not choose to answer
Because we had a clash
I just let you play your tune
On my door made of ash

And it took a little time
For silence to resume
That left me just standing here
Frozen in my room

I never heard your knock again
Now hearing the door bell
Sometimes I hope that it is you
Your knock I knew so well

But slowly when I open it
I no longer see your face
But someone else is standing there
And you they have replaced

I wonder why we had to end?
I know it's been a while
But I just crave to see your face
Your tune that made me smile

Although my door bell plays a chime
I now no longer have a clue
But I know when I will open it
It never will be you
