A Door Left Unopen

by Walter   Oct 27, 2022

I walk our path without you, the same way we would go
And although the steps familiar, this time they don't flow
As once we shared the journey, while we were hand in hand
But now when I turn around, your prints aren't in the sand

So maybe I'll look forward, in the hope you'll cross my way
On our path I'm bound to find you, as long as I don't stray
But in all the miles I travel, our steps don't ever meet
And I still haven't found you, when I end back on my street

When looking for my home, your car is no longer there
When I look back on our path, it's still remaining bare
And I don't understand, in my heart you're still so near
But when I look to my side, it's now you disappear

While standing at my door, I feel like I should knock
In the hope that you will answer, open and unlock
When I go to use my key, I notice two with the same cut
And all my hopes now vanish, with the door remaining shut
