The sun that shone darkness

It is often said that mankind thrives on light
That hope is the food that fuels the soul to fight
That warmth is the goal at the end of the day
In the arms of those we cannot betray
However, the brighter the light, the darker its shade
Walking side by side in the ultimate parade
Snatching the souls that strayed too far away
Turning their colors into a gloomy gray
The lost were once the seekers of light
They bathed in its warmth after every fight
Badges of honor, they collected scars
Discrete tellers of the universe’s fallen stars
Those who walked the path under the scorching sun
To quench their thirst, they found no one
They had to seek the darkness of the shade
To ease the pain, to hide that they were afraid
They found solace in the blackness of the void
At least they couldn’t see their hopes that were destroyed
Light has become a beacon of terror
The terrifying silent truth bearer
As if hope no longer a fuel but a poison with no antidote
held like a knife at the base of their throats
Until one day a hand reached out to the light
Burned and bruised, it was not the end of the fight
Escaping the night and bathing in the heat of pain
The path it walked shall not go in vain
No longer gray, not even rainbow days
A new path was made, for the surviving strays

Glad this got nominated. Really love the contrast and how it begins and ends with light. The ideal and the struggle for and to it. Thank you for sharing :)
