Left On The Shelf

by Walter   Jul 26, 2023

I often go to borrow books
From my library up ahead
I have taken out many loans
And enjoyed most that I've read

Though sometimes I come across
Books that look interesting
But then conclude by chapter three
They're not worth finishing

I'll try to avoid to search online
With finding a review
As often stories will be spoiled
When reading the preview

Covers are made to catch your eye
Of stories that unfold
But often finding plain text ones
The best that have been told

When I'm searching on the shelves
For books that are unsurpassed
Sometimes I will see a title
That I've read in my past

The book might stir an emotion
And one I'd recommend
Where I was drawn from each page turned
Not wanting it to end

I picked that book and took it home
From many years ago
And re-read things between the lines
At first I didn't know

This made me think, is love the same?
Where new things will be found
Would past love that sadly ends
Go a second time around?

And even if the way it ended
Had left you feeling blue
Would you re-read your book called 'Love'
This time to make anew?
