Uninvited Visitor

by silvershoes   Dec 13, 2023

Grief, an unwelcome guest,
arrives unannounced, heavy-footed,
its weight pressing against my chest
not unlike love's tender ache.

In the quiet, when grief unfolds,
love stands sentinel, a silent guardian;
a cat curled on the windowsill of my soul,
watching over a throbbing heart.

    Is this about Milo? I'm sure it is. I don't believe in an afterlife for humans but I hope there is an afterlife for animals where they play and run and get treats and bathe in the sun. I hope your orange boy is rolling around in a cozy bed and chasing birds and receiving kisses and pets and warmness.

    It truly is a grief unlike anything else. I still find some comfort years later thinking they never truly leave... always staying in my heart as much as remembering can hurt.

    Lots of love <3
