When Silence Speaks Lies

by Oluwaseye Olayode Taiwo   May 11, 2025

Truth once stood in golden light,
Pure and whole, a beacon bright,
But hands of fear, or pride, or pain,
Hid her face in shadow’s frame.

She wept, unseen, behind the veil,
As silence spread like whispered gale;
For truth unspoken starts to rot—
Its silence wounds, its justice not.

The lie, once meek and cast aside,
Dressed itself in robes of pride,
Spoke loud, stood tall, and took the stage—
The fraud became the wisdom-sage.

It danced on screens, in books, in halls,
Echoed loud through polished walls.
By power’s tongue and public nod,
It stole the place where truth once trod.

And so the world, in blinded trust,
Knelt down to idols made of dust.
Not knowing what was real or right,
They kissed the dark, mistaking light.

But truth is patient, fierce, and wise—
She waits for brave and seeing eyes.
Not all who seek will pass her test,
But those who do, will know the rest:

That truth must speak, must not retreat,
Must walk, though thorns may pierce her feet.
For hidden truth is truth denied,
And in that hush, a lie can thrive.

So guard the light, defend the flame,
Call things by their rightful name.
For only when the truth is known,
Can justice rise and peace be sown.

"Truth becomes a lie when it is hidden, and a lie becomes truth when it is exposed." — OluwaseyeT

This profound statement underscores the transformative power of revelation and concealment in shaping our perception of truth. It suggests that when truth is suppressed or obscured, it risks being misconstrued or replaced by falsehoods. Conversely, when falsehoods are brought to light, they can be recognized for what they are, allowing the truth to emerge.

In a world where information is often manipulated, this quote serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of transparency and honesty. It calls upon us to seek clarity, question narratives, and uphold integrity, ensuring that truth remains untainted and accessible to all.
