The Scourge of Poetic Licence

by Danny   May 16, 2025

Dinsdale MacKillacoppy to poets, no doubt.
Is one hell of a name to bandy about.

So in true poetic fashion they cut and they snip.
Til' the fore mentioned name is plain Dan McKipp.

Now the same maybe said of most things in life.
Can nothing be spared the poets sharp knife.

They'll make Reynard from fox, Bruin from bear.
And change Ireland to Erin, with no hint of a care.

They will alter and twist the grammatical word.
Then come up with their own, that nobody's heard.

So not to be thwarted by poets or men.
I decided to take the paper to pen (poetic licence!!).

And in true bardic fashion, to make up and twist.
The King's written english, at a flick of the wrist.

Sail on uncharted grammar, on a paperly lake.
And reaching the end, by whatever it takes.

To be hailed by all poets, from first word to end.
Not so much well written, but more so, well penned.
