There Is This Man

There is this man I know so well
He keeps old songs like wishing wells
A thousand storms behind his eyes
But still he smiles and still he tries

He makes me laugh when night is long
He turns a wound into a song
And when the world gets cold and loud
He finds my hand inside the crowd

And I don’t know how hearts survive
But his still burns and stays alive
If love is light in broken glass
He makes it shine through all the cracks

There is this man
And he makes me feel at home
When he says my name
I don’t feel alone

There is this man
With a heart he tries to hide
But when he holds me close
I see the sky inside

He plays the songs from yesterday
Like time forgot to take them away
Winamp glowing in the night
Green little stars and borrowed light

He says my smile can make him fly
But he forgets the reason why
The better part he sees in me
Is also who he came to be

And I don’t need the perfect words
I hear the quiet things unheard
The way he stays, the way he knows
The way his guarded softness shows

There is this man
And he makes me feel at home
When he says my name
I don’t feel alone

There is this man
With a heart he tries to hide
But when he holds me close
I see the sky inside

Maybe one day he will know
He is the reason I don’t go
Not because the road is clear
But because my home is here

There is this man
And he makes me feel at home
When he says my name
I don’t feel alone

There is this man
With a heart he tries to hide
But when he holds me close
I see the sky inside

There is this man I know so well
He keeps old songs like wishing wells
Even when the night is wide
He is the warmth I choose beside
