I’ve been curled up beside my dog at someone else’s house for months-
Blanket burritos and comfort TV shows,
I work the night shift and sleep the day away like it’ll make me forget about the hole you left in my chest.
And the mail is piling up-
I pay for internet I haven’t even been using and I’m pretty sure the food in my fridge is done for,
I haven’t bought new groceries since you left.
Every time I walk through the door all I see is you and so-
The place I used to call home is now foreign to me,
Your presence was so precious that even the walls whisper your name when it’s quiet now.
I avoid the place like a plague.
Like being in my own bed will drain the color from my face;
The same fate of the flowers left on my kitchen counter, unwatered.
I’m too scared to see you looking around for the trash can for the first time if I go in-
Brown curls bouncing across your forehead with the movement like paid actors,
The novelty of it all made my knees weak.
Your absence makes me ill so-
I’ve been curled up beside my dog at someone else’s house.
You haven’t walked through my front door in months and now I can’t bring myself to do it either.
