You were there

by Beautiful Tragedy   Nov 3, 2026

You were there-
In my phone explaining why you went away as if I didn’t already know.
And you’d asked to meet up as if you’d abandoned me-
Which was insane because technically you did,
It wasn’t your fault I was left behind to pick up the pieces of myself.
And everyone else, too.
Your name kept popping up on the screen in my dreams-
And my initial reaction was how rude it was that my brain acted like you never left,
The relief was immediate as I typed so fast;
I was trying to tell you I love you and I’m not angry,
But then you stopped responding.
I woke up and sobbed into the pillow.
And I drove past the road to your house today-
A deep well of sadness settled in my chest and the road turned blurry again,
It’s been doing that a lot since you’ve been gone;
That road used to lead me straight to you.
Now it leads to your ghost.
You were there-
In my phone explaining why you went away as if I didn’t already know.
Then I woke up and sobbed into my pillow because-
How am I supposed to live without you if you keep haunting me?
