In twenty years or so

by Mild insomnia   Jul 23, 2004

Dad?
in twenty years or so,
will the trees be green?
will the flowers still grow?
and will that woman still be queen?

Dad?
in twenty years or so,
what will I look like?
what weird things will I know?
what colours can I paint the sky?

Dad?
in twenty years or so,
why will things change?
I like them as they are,
why can't it stay the same?

Dad?
in twenty years or so,
where will I live?
where will the nice people be?
who learn to share and give?

Dad?
in twenty years or so,
who will look after my dolls?
I'll be off to work,
who will watch the trolls?

Dad?
in twenty years or so,
when you're an old grandad,
and my kids come and ask,
about the life we had.

Dad?
in twenty years or so,
I don't know,
ask your mother!

Mum?
in twenty years or so...
