City On The Edge Of Forever

City On The Edge Of Forever
By Mark Spencer

So you wish to know of my spirit quest.
You seek to follow where my soul dares go.
Are you sure you can cope with what you will see?
Can you view what only the dead can know?

To understand that which I will now reveal,
One must journey outside this mortal plane.
To a realm beyond imagination,
That can't be contained within the human brain.

There you will see a city of crystal,
Where dwell twelve majestic beings of light.
Everything there emits a heavenly glow.
That can only be seen through spiritual sight.

Every sensation is complete perfection,
Limited not by these imperfect forms.
All things there have a higher connection,
Whenever I go there, my spirit transforms.

The sound of music can't be heard with your ears,
For it is a melody felt by the soul.
A music, unrestrained by mortal laws,
Unbound by the limits of human control.

The scent of a flower envelops you,
The touch of it's petal, charged with life's essence.
Its voice enfolds you and enchants your mind,
As you view its glorious luminescence.

And within the hallowed halls of the city,
You'll find answers to any question posed.
Yet you will learn, these answers are quite fleeting,
You cannot retain what truths are disclosed.

To this place, I return when I grow weary;
When the burdens of life have taken their toll.
To remember, once more, why I am alive,
And to feel its power replenish my soul.

Seek the light at the end of the tunnel,
If this place is the goal of your endeavor.
Perhaps there we will meet, when life's journey ends,
In that city on the edge of forever.

End.
