Assigning A Face To God

Assigning A Face To God
By Mark Spencer

What face do you imagine when you think of God?
Is there a sex you assign the Lord as well?
We call God "Him", for lack of a better pronoun.
But the Lord is not a man, or can't you tell?

God is not male or female, He's not white or black,
You can't prove anything, so why do you fight?
The Lord is not a force to be wielded by you,
And you do not tell God what is wrong and right!

His word is not a weapon to strike at your foe.
It's not meant to harm, or be used for control.
We are not the musician, just the instruments,
The music we make should be good for the soul.

If you start down your road and say come follow me,
Should we abandon the paths God paved for us?
Shouldn't you have faith in God's plan for everyone?
And if you do, why do you make such a fuss?

Are you an instrument in God's great orchestra,
Or a weapon against what you think is sin?
Does the song you choose to play create harmony,
Or does it drown out the melody within?

Do you know the visage you've assigned to God?
Does it shine with the radiance of His grace?
Don't look towards the sky for the image you seek,
Just look in a mirror and you'll see that face.

End.
