Running From Frozen Fear

by Kacie   Oct 22, 2004

Walls tumbling down,
Darkness all around,
People screaming running in fear,
Others at home praying for the ones they hold dear.

Policemen, Firemen, and Port Authority too,
Fled to the site leaving behind just a few,
They did not know what was ahead,
How their families hearts must have bled.

Phone calls coming in left and right,
Spouses and kids were out of sight,
Minutes seemed like hours and hours seemed like days,
We were all walking around in a daze.

This was the day our world was stilled,
For thousands the hole cannot be filled,
Days upon days they would search and try,
Night by night our world would cry.

The World Trade Center is gone forever,
And we may never recover,
How many lives changed that day,
No one knew what to say.

The Pentagon and a Pennslyvania field,
Could not be protected by the US shield,
As fear spread across the nation,
Soldiers marched bravely to their stations.

We were on a school trip that day, a day full of fun,
Hate set in and blackness covered the sun,
We all rushed back panic was in the air,
Parents were waiting with love and care.

We watched in horroe on that day,
As our freedom was almost taken away,
In shock of this tragedy my hope was restored,
As I saw for myself, everyone opening their doors.

I saw people jumping to their death,
As others stumbled through the dust holding their breath,
Tears come to my eyes,
I do not understand the hows or the whys...

Lives were lost and I will not know their names,
Please tell me this was just a horrible game,
I cry when I think about the children alone,
Who only have left a message on a phone.

Home again but would we ever feel secure,
Fighting for our freedom life is so unsure,
Sept.11th the day that lives on,
Sorrow and pain for the heros that are gone.

Sept.11th our day of living hell,
Sept.11th where all our grief and sorrow are put into a shell,
Sept.11th will always be,
Sept.11th the day that changed me.

*This was written right after Sept 11 to honor everyone who lost their lives that day they will never be forgotten... and its a very special poem to me because it was the first poem I ever wrote, its the first and only poem I ever got published and its also the first and probably the last poem I ever wrote with my mom*
