Cain and Abel

by Michael D Nalley   Nov 21, 2004

This is the sad song of Cain
And the first man to be slain
The story of the awful pain,
Of the brother, whom, was so vain

The tiller of the soil,
The demons would embroil
In their sinful turmoil
Causing Cain’s fruits to spoil

The fruit he offered, at the Lord’s table
It came from a heart that was unstable
Which lead to him killing his brother, Abel
And he wandered the earth, with this label

The fruits of God’s love are offered to the reaper
Who would return love, and be their brother’s keeper
But the hills of the earth are so much steeper
For those who love the fruits of the earth deeper

Abel was accepted at the altar of God
Cain was exiled into the land of Nod
The earth would eventually be washed clean by a flood
But the indelible mark of Cain remains in man’s blood

Only the grace of God can wash our hearts clean of this awful thing
So that the descendants of Cain can have peace, and harmony to sing
Lord we pray, that this song of love can be sung, so that to Your altar we may bring
A worthy and acceptable sacrifice to You our Lord, a most worthy King
