Snowy Retreat

by Poetically Speaking   Dec 4, 2004

a dim light on a frost bitten night
peeks through a crack in the sky
casting a glow over all that is godlike
a chilly winter masks the life below
a forest halted in its tracks by snow

citrus stars do descend
upon a night made just for friends
mountain peeks do peek
wild life does sneak
porch fronts slowly creek
as you and I softly speak

a serine belief in the cold of winter
a fireplace holds its own
a young cat rolls on the ground
as you and I bask in its glow
what a night to meet alas
two friends from high school
the same class

laughter echoes in the small cabin
as you me reminisce on times past
old friends together again
old friendship unsurpassed

the night grows old ready to sleep
as the owl hoots on past the creek
what a perfect place for two friends to meet
in the quiet of night
at our old retreat
