City Screams, Liquid Dreams

by Poetically Speaking   Dec 18, 2008

How cruel is a heartless promise,

now that you don't feel for me?

As I lay trapped within this dark room,

beneath the amber lights of the city.

And I knew that the words you spoke

fell from your lips like glue.

Liquid dreams and honest lies,

were the only things about you ever true.

Sapphire red lips,

pressed tightly behind city screams,

where the lights of fleeting memories

weighed heavy down upon our dreams.

And I found my heart stuffed in a drawer,

next to a picture of you and me.

Where the echo of past laughter

drowns out the sound of my new enemies.

So I cried in the silence of my misery,

for all of the promises which never came to be.

Where the lovers with time to waste,

can now be together like we once dreamed...

How cruel is a heartless promise,

now that you're finally free?

How could any of this,

have happened to you and me...

Heartbreaking. But the title really catches people's attention. It's very well written. I love it. When I read the words of this poem I can feel the pain deep inside. Keep up the wonderful work!
