Not A Father, Nor A Dad

by Tanya, Mom of one.   Dec 5, 2004

How can you live every day,
Not knowing your own child?
Not seeing her little tiny face,
And wanting to hold her all the while?

How can you call yourself a "dad",
When you never have took part,
In even looking at this little girl,
And not giving her any of your heart?

I understand you did not want her,
But with that I could not go along,
Ending a life because it was a mistake,
Is nothing but pure "wrong".

She has every right to be here,
And to me, more right than you,
To call yourself a "Father",
And do the things that you do.

You can say its all my fault,
With you I am used to taking the blame,
But I be damned if I was going to give...MY daughter, YOUR last name.

She does not know the word "daddy",
Unless I call upon mine,
And during the night when she wakes up...
Its not for you that she cries.

You were a part of her tiny life,
That she will never know.
She was a part of your life,
That you just simply let go.

But even tho you tried to hurt me,
You failed miserably once more,
You gave me the best part of my life,
Its Savannah, that I truely adore.

I never wanted things to be this way,
You were the one that turned and ran,
That's why I ask, how can you call yourself a "Father",
When you are barely even a man?

You ran from your own flesh and blood,
And went on living your life,
You never gave her one last thought,
Except that she had a "price".

So now that its over how do you feel?
Relieved? happy? Or full of pain?
That this beautiful child that I call MINE,
Will never be yours again?

I hope your truely happy Brook,
With all that your money can buy.
But I hope that when you get old and think of her,
All you do is sit and cry.

Think of the child you left behind,
I hope it hurts in your soul,
To know the words, "I Love You Savannah"
From you will never be told.

Lay in the bed you made, Dear Brook,
And reap what you sew,
A precious little girl named Savannah,
You will never get to know.

Very well written. I am only 20 and I have 3 kids and one on the way. My oldest could have had this poem written about his dad except his dad wont terminate his rights. I got goosebumps from reading this. keep up the great work
