Matchstick Tears

by Dani Ward   Dec 6, 2004

WARNING: this poem will spoil the movie Matchstick Men if you have not yet seen it!!!

You may think its wrong,
but thats not really true,
a con artist isn't a criminal,
because they give the money to you.
Ive been quite alone,
for the past 15 years,
my wife 2 months pregnant,
left me with my tears.
now Ive met my daughter,
who really takes after me,
i love her so much,
she fills my life with glee.
so I'll just pull one last job,
before i retire from this life,
to be with my baby girl,
and maybe find a new wife.
but the job doesn't go quite right,
and the guy comes for us,
he gets shot by my daughter,
and causes quite a fuss.
my partner takes my daughter,
so i know that she'll be fine,
but the guy knocks me out,
and on me the cops now dine.
once i wake up in the hospital bed,
i tell my shrink what to do,
give my daughter the safety box code,
so she can start life anew.
the next time i wake up,
there is nobody around,
turns out my partner conned me,
and my heart starts to pound.
i finally go to my ex-wife,
to see if my daughter is alright,
she tells me she never had the child,
and my throat starts closing tight.
i never had a daughter,
she was just in on the con,
how could this be true,
i feel like such a pawn.
i get a new job,
and continue my life,
and now I'll soon have a baby,
with my wonderful new wife.

this poem is based on the move Matchstick Men. it really broke my heart at the end and made me cry. Nicolas Cage did a wonderful job and i recommend that you see this movie.
