Caspian Sea

by Scarlette   Jan 12, 2005

I walk through the sultry hollow
In the city of kings
Of poets and flowers and azure skies
But lost in the Caspian Sea

And I see the first temple
To the west, where the sun kisses the earth
And underneath is the holiest
A burial place, for the finest of birth

The architectural lands with the missing words
That once whispered the ancient script
And now gone in the hands of unruly fists
Fury and envy and heavenly stripped

I come to a rest
In a desert, of history and sight
Near Tabriz, distant to handsome Shiraz
Yet it is the same, in the township of light

This is my asylum, my highest endeavor
This is my orphanage, the family forever
Near Half the World, I dip my toes
In that blue of the Caspian Sea

(this poem really means a lot to me. Nearly every single line represents one aspect of my home - and some phrases do have understories)
