Foolish mistake

Unsure weather he will live or die
each breath a miracle
each day standing by his side
looking down at her own creation.

doctors not knowing if he will survive
' it's too hard to say '
so many complications with her son.
the wires connecting him to the machines all that keeps him alive.
too think this could have been prevented
if only she hadn't been so foolish.

' you only live once ' her motto
yet her son might not even get that
all because of wishing to try something new.
the temptation to try drugs.

the foolish woman took to much
her baby taken out as they tried to save her life
yet this is the result
the baby barely alive the mother dead.

a nurse comes to check on the babe
unaware of the woman standing there
seeing everything is fine she leaves.
the woman grasps her sons hand and silently promises.
' i failed in life to be a good mum but i shall look after you now. '
she looks at his sleeping form and wishes she could change the past.

a guardian angel the woman becomes no harm coming to her son.
that is until 10 years later he died.
all because of the hole in his heart caused by his mothers foolish mistake.

at last they get to be together.
mother and son united.
now she can protect him forever.
no more harm coming to the pair.
