Personal Hell

For every moment that we've smiled
Hiding the cries for when we're alone
For every time we laughed it off
In the best believable tone

From every time we've said "I'm fine"
And put on the best face so no one could tell
What was happening deep inside
That your life was your own personal hell

Out to get you
So in misery you'll stay
Silently cry each night
It's the only way

Hide your pain for the next day
Wipe away each tear
Apply some make-up to cover up
Just like you have the past year

Pull down your sleeve
So no one can see the scars
Made each night from sorrow
When everyone is so very far

When your all alone
With nobody by your side
When your life begins to attack
From everything that you seem to hide

That's when the tears rush
You've held back for so long
Thought you'd be happy one day
But realized you were wrong

For every person you lied to
A lie to mask the truth from them
Saying it so convincingly
Making it sound like your life is a precious gem

For every time that you've been hurt
By yourself and by others
How you held back every tear
Knowing the pain would last forever

Haunting you endlessly
It would never go away
The pain would come back
This time it would stay

Won't leave you alone
It's come to get you
Your soul it will keep
There's nothing you can do

For every time you thought you were alone
And facing the world on your own
There was somebody going through the same thing
Someone also facing what life had left to bring...
