But Another:

by Kaitlin Kristina   Feb 24, 2005

“Baby,” you say

“Yes my love?”

“Darling,”

“Honey,”

“Sweetness,”

“Lover,”

Things I assumed wouldn’t be said to another-

But let me tell you,

When I heard you say

That you loved another “baby”

My heart you did slay

And when you answered her glance,

With “yes, my love?”

A hole in my soul, way too deep was dug.

When your “darling,” called,

And I answered your phone,

Your “honey” hung up,

She didn’t know I was home.

And you didn’t know,

When you told “sweetness” you were sorry,

That my shadow was outside the door,

But you never looked and saw me.

And when your “lover” told you,

It was her or me,

I was not the “baby” that you chose to be.

So the next time I am called,

By another,

A name like “honey,” “baby,” “sweetness,”

Or “lover,”

I will always think,

That its not me,

But another.

Loves
