Remember when everything was so perfect,
Remember when nothing could go so wrong;
Remember when a cookie made everything better,
Remember when twenty minutes seemed so long?
Think back to when boys had cooties,
And the girls did not have to match;
Recollect the memories of wishing on dandelions,
And when grasshoppers were the things to catch.
Everything used to be so easy,
Everything seemed too simple;
Now there is nothing but worry about this and that,
And tears over “him†and too many pimples.
There was a time when I was little,
When right and wrong was like night and day;
Now the choices are getting harder,
Every time I turn around in every single way.
Everyone remembers a time when nothing had to be explained,
Everyone can picture a moment of perfection in their past;
Everyone can clearly see the path they have trodden,
Because their scars are left to last.
Scars trigger the memory,
And force you to remember your past;
Whether it be good and cheerful,
Or lonely as if you were an outcast.
Remember who you were,
But don’t lose sight of who you’ve grown up to be;
Because your past makes up only part of you
Not just what everyone can see.
