The Past

by Katie   Apr 6, 2005

Walking down the street on a warm summers day,
She takes a trip to the past and remembers each way.
Each way she knew, each way she grew.
Each way she wished they knew who.
Who she loved, and who she cared for.
But that was the past, it doesn’t exist anymore.
If only she wished on just one more star,
If only she went the distance whether near or far.
Another memory comes to mind each step she takes.
Now she remembers each and every smile she faked.
Every smile, every tear,
Its just another sign of more fear.
Hear this girl cry as she walks along this sidewalk.
Should she stop here, or walk another block?
One memory after another, each one tearing her apart.
She remembers the work from school, even from art.
She always drew a broken heart with wings.
For she always believed that angels sing.
She thought that if an angel could sing to her and make her feel free,
That maybe God had heard her plea.
She walks back home and grows closer to tears,
As she remembers each day of the past years.
“Those were the days,” she says to herself as she walks through the door.
One more thought of his pretty eyes that she always adored.
Its not the same now as it was then but she’s not complaining.
For the sun is out, its no longer raining.
