The Memory of The Tears

by Sarah   Apr 11, 2005

I loved him so much ,
every day I would see him sitting there , in his Little room,
laughing away...

he said I was his special girl
and i remember I was proud
To hear him say that
so confidently out loud

One day , I went to see him
and knocked softly on the door
I opened it, tenderly
and saw him lying there on the floor

I thought he was playing around
ready to jump up and scare me
and i went over to him
and bent down on my knees

I said wake up , granddad
but he didn't move
and i realized
that he wasn't playing the fool

I lay beside him
tears trickling from my eyes
and whispered oh, so , softly ,
I'll hope they look after you in the
sky

One week later , As a car moved up the drive
I took one last look of him in that strange box, tucked inside

It still hurts inside, really ,
the pain from way back , then
and when I think about it
all the tears come back again
