Teenage Democracy

In a game of monopoly, where the vast majority
Are scheming, screaming, b! tching for perfection
The claws of the cats and fangs of the dogs
Tearing and manipulating
Fluffing for melancholy.

In a game of idol, where the judges are the community
And the angels of life are the devils of vanity
Curved lines of vermilion star stricken folly
Unjust expectations
Recipes for anorexia.

In a plantation of beauty, where the roses are careless
The thorns are the brains with dreams of intelligence
Eyeliner and dumbbells vs. books and knowledge
A battle of cool and success
Sow the harassment.

In a playground of sex, partying and underage drinks
Alcoholism peaks into the democracy of ‘hip’
Where sweet 16 is a year of animal lust
Pressured and curious
Compose teenage pregnancy.

In a world of high school, adolescent innocence
There is a hell of incensed violent natures
Sacrifice dreams and a future of expectations
Think less, do the expected
Kiss away your unique.

    My god I actually liked it. It's nice to hear a poem that doesn't follow any certain rhyme scheme, but still works. Not half bad, and your metaphors were pretty good too. Maybe try a different word than "fluffing" in the fifth line. Damn I want to find more to criticize! Oh well, maybe next time.

    i love this poem...

    this has a great rythem and it is so true of the world around us in these years that are supposed to be the best of our lives.. destroying a future we no longer have is a trait among us and a folly to us all... keep writing you are one of the best(actually the best on my fav. list :) )
