I Thought

by Afraid of the Dark   Apr 19, 2005

Lying in the velvet dark,
I thought I heard you calling,
A gentle creak upon the step,
I thought I heard you falling.

For moment, lying there,
I thought you had returned,
From your early leaving,
From that day you burned.

As my mind began to wake,
I thought I saw you there,
Standing in my doorway,
Drowning my despair.

That figure in my doorway,
Was nothing but a coat,
The voice I heard calling,
Issued from my throat.

Though not normally a fan of rhyming work, this is very good. It's hard to come up with new or unusual rhymes, but you did excelent.More important is the emotional impact.Very powerful, across so sad one can feel it.For one your age, you have a good grasp on the rhythm and style.I thought I had a corner on the melancholy/sad stuff, but after reading your work I can only hope not all is sadness in your life.I always found writing the best way to release the emotions threatening to destroy me with their intensity.Keep up the good wprk.
