A POVERTY STRICKEN WORLD*

by Hina   May 9, 2005

Poverty strikes in a moment in time
And humanity does the undone
Dearth makes me cheerless and I will define
The worth of me is none

For I am a woman whose pleasure resides
In the future of my children’s souls
I behold the power to truly confide
The torture this woman’s bestowed

My skin is cracked from running cold water
Yearning heat has become a sin
My eyes gaze at torture that comes from all matter
Produced by myself, my children

Severely anemic my blood has spoken
My bones are visible from my side
Wrinkled is the skin beneath my eyelid
A broken tear to eternally reside

Medical Aid you ask for me to seek
That the government should provide
When the wound is cruel, deeper than deep
Useless is the torture of pride

You must have noticed how the poor are silent
Notice how often they speak
My world’s become a mental asylum
My home placed beneath your feet

For only you can help a lonely deprived’
Of all life’s pleasures you seek
Only you can help the poverty alike
Each one of us suffers from deceit

I will stay silent and so will my kids
For wealth the government too
When it’s about your money, tell me my friend
Will you stay silent too?
