Hell On Earth

by SpillCanvas   May 10, 2005

How is it that the world sees nothing?
While thousands of people die.
How is it that the world chooses to ignore,
These helpless peoples cries?

When the holocaust happened,
The world preached: "never again!"
And you know what? Everyone believed it,
Including me, but then...

Then came Rwanda.
A genocide that brought 800,000 peoples lives to an end.
These people did not have to die, they just needed help.
Help WE could have given them... help that no one chose to send.

Their blood is on our hands,
But not yours and mine alone
The whole world is to blame,
Then these words were etched in stone

"Never again will the world stand by,
Never again will we ignore mass genocide."

Yet the world has yet again,
Failed to live up to its pact.
This promise that they made,
Cannot be taken as a fact!

The world looks on with a blind eye,
As 500,000 more people die.
And I bet that you didn't even know,
I guess that just goes to show

The world has become a disgusting place.
Where people can wipe out, an entire race.

The world will go on unaffected.
But these people cannot be resurrected.
You can go on with your day-to-day life.
These people cannot, they are dead. The survivors live in strife.

So please choose not to look on with a blind eye.
Please choose not to stand by, while thousands of people die!
Please make the right choice, but the choice is yours to make.
Just keep in mind, how many people’s lives are at stake.

Every month 13,000 more will die.
Take heed in this message, I assure you it's no lie.
This massacre is taking place this very moment in Darfur
I know that that may sound a million worlds from here

Keep in mind that there is only one world.
A world that we all must share.
Everyone on it deserves a chance to live.
A chance for the world to be fair.

Please don’t forget this poem...
The minute you’re done the last line.
This is our world, and if we don’t stand up for it.
It will come crashing down in time,

So please take a moment to give all that you can,
To the people of Darfur
Remember that it is part of our home.
Not a million worlds from here.

Isn't it amazing what people can do to other people? Why would people do such things? Because of their greed and evil demand them to. I really liked how you used actual figures in the poem.. although it was not all that syntaxtically correct, you made a lot of sense, and i praise you for that. Great poem, 5/5 good job, thanks for sharing.
